Inter-agency Tax Transfers (Table IV)

About Table IV — inter-agency tax transfers

Table IV tracks tax receipts being transferred from the Treasury’s general fund to the federal trust funds entitled to them. When employers send in withheld income and payroll taxes, the money initially lands in the Treasury General Account (Table I) as a single deposit; this table records the subsequent allocation of those receipts to the Social Security and Medicare trust funds, the Railroad Retirement account, and funds financed by excise taxes. Each classification shows amounts transferred today, month to date, and fiscal year to date.

This table was called Federal Tax Deposits until February 2023, when the Treasury redesigned the Daily Treasury Statement: actual tax deposit detail now appears in Deposits and Withdrawals (Table II), and this table was renamed to reflect its focus on transfers between government accounts. Data shown here for dates before February 14, 2023 follows the old Federal Tax Deposits format — use the date picker above to explore it.
